A fight for the best view of London, Berlin and Amsterdam
Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts and Fight for Sight announce the winners of their annual ‘My View Of…’ photography competition
London, 5 November 2012 - Fight for Sight, the UK’s leading eye research charity, and Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts teamed up once again for the third annual ‘My View Of’ photography competition and have just announced the 2012 competition winners, selected from 380 entrants with the help of four renowned photographers Nic Barlow, Barbara Chandler, Anthony Osmond-Evans and Henry Bourne.
A selection of the top photographs will be on display at Park Plaza Victoria, until 29 November 2012.
The winning image of London was taken by Dennis Ekelschot and snapped from the brand new cable cars connecting the Greenwich Peninsula to the Royal Docks across the Thames. From this vantage point, the London winner was able to capture views of the Olympic Park, the River Thames and London’s iconic skyline.
With this winning shot, Dennis has won several prizes including a Nikon D3200 Digital SLR camera, a two night stay for two, in a Penthouse Suite (or equivalent) at a Park Plaza in Amsterdam, Berlin or London and an annual Photofusion membership.
Winning the Berlin category was a photograph taken by Rana Mahboob Alam at the Brandenburger Tor, at the end of the Unter den Linden Avenue. The judges described the photo as “theatrical, dramatic, and symbolic”.
Top of the Amsterdam category was a shot which judges felt ‘told the story’ of the city and is a nostalgic sunset view of Amsterdam, taken by James McGee.
“‘My view of…’ has been a great success for a third year running, receiving entries from across Europe, and Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts is delighted to be supporting such a worthy cause once again,” says Greg Hegarty, Regional General Manager of Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts.
In the UK alone, an estimated 100 people begin to lose their sight every day. By encouraging people to take a moment to appreciate the spectacular views these cities have to offer, the Fight for Sight photo competition brings home the importance of sight.
