London, 5 February 2013 - The art work from the successful artist-in-residence programme at Park Plaza Victoria London will be sold off in a silent auction this month. The auction will take place until 28 February at the hotel and all proceeds will go to chosen art charities – The Passage and The Art Room.
During September and October this year, six aspiring visual art students from The Independent Art School took up residency in the hotel. Each crafted their works in the lobby, bar and other public areas of Park Plaza Victoria London in front of guests and visitors – a first for both the artists and hotel.
The finished works have been exhibited throughout the property and have been well received by guests in the design-led hotel. The pieces include an abstract painting of jubilant London in 2012, a collage depicting the notions of an English rose, and a print which focuses on the surrounding spaces.
A ballot box placed under the art work will allow guests to bid for their chosen piece.
Half of the proceeds will go to The Passage, a charity providing shelter and support to the homeless in and around Victoria. The other half will go to The Art Room, which offers art as therapy to children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
“This is a great chance for people to bid for an original piece of work from a talented art student. We hope that the silent auction will raise a substantial amount of money for two charities that both the hotel, and the Independent Art School, feel passionate about supporting”, says Ramesh Costa, General Manager of Park Plaza Victoria.
“The artist-in-residence programme has given these six artists a platform to display and discuss their work. It has been a great success for both the artists and the hotel, creating a distinctive experience for our guests”, he continues.
Please note: Bidding is now open at Park Plaza Victoria London hotel. Bidding has been extended until 15 March 2013.
