The Green Tourism Business Scheme awards the hotel’s ‘green team’
London, 12 October 2012 - Park Plaza Nottingham has achieved the Gold level Green Tourism Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme, the national sustainable tourism certification scheme for the UK.
The award recognises the Maid Marian hotel’s recent refurbishment and investments in energy-saving initiatives including efficient boilers, hot water setting options and the installation of LED lighting. In support of its environmental strategy, Park Plaza Nottingham has introduced a number of measures and followed a clear action plan to implement its ‘green’ activities. It has a dedicated ‘green team’ which ensures all team members are fully aware of the organisation’s green objectives and on-site this is clearly communicated through visitor information and a ‘green folder’ for guests. Through the sleepsmart/streetsmart programme, the hotel is an active contributor to the local community and is also involved in local tree planting.
Tom Waldron-Lynch, General Manager of Park Plaza Nottingham said: “I am delighted that we have been recognised for this industry-leading award. The green team here at the hotel should receive a special mention as they have worked tirelessly in progressing our environmental and green practices and it is because of this and the initiatives we have implemented that we have won gold.”
Launched in 1997, the Green Tourism Business Scheme is the largest and most established of its kind in the world. Businesses which join the scheme are assessed on a rigorous set of criteria and those that meet the required standard are awarded with Bronze, Silver or Gold based on their level of achievement.
Park Plaza Nottingham is located on Maid Marian Way in the heart of Nottingham’s city centre, offering 178 stylist and spacious guest rooms, 12 modern function rooms, a fitness suite, a vibrant lobby bar and the award-winning Chino Latino Pan-Asian restaurant and cocktail bar.
