Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts and Arenaturist race to the finish line for Croatia’s first Ironman 70.3 competion.
September 23 – Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts and Croatian hospitality partner, Arenaturist, joined forces on Saturday (20 September) to take part in endurance triathlon, Ironman 70.3, set in the ancient city of Pula, Croatia.
Croatia played the role of host for the first time with Ironman 70.3 seeing over 1700 participants compete in the contest, which is renowned for intense and challenging courses and terrains.
Participants from Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts included Dario Mijatovic (Park Plaza Histria), Shaun Broers (Park Plaza Utrecht), Erik Kamer (Park Plaza Amsterdam Airport) and Alberto Ramos Parra (Regional Office UK), with Nebojsa Mickov, Vanja Marijan and Ljubo Zajkovski joining from Arenaturist Sales & Marketing Department.
Facing a tough challenge, the teams had to cover a distance of 70.3 miles, consisting of a 1.2 mile swim in the sea, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run across the scenic Istrian coast, before crossing the finish line in Pula Arena, the city’s famous amphitheatre.
Shaun Broers, Hotel Manager at Park Plaza Utrecht in the Netherlands, said: “We have been training for several months for Ironman, so to have finally made it to Pula for the competition has been a fantastic experience. The atmosphere has been incredible with competitors from both PPH&R and Arenaturist showed great strength in completing a really tough course. I am thrilled to have finished and am really proud of all of our participants.”
Ljubo Zajkovskifrom Arenaturist added “It is fantastic to see the PPH&R and Arenaturist teams join together for Ironman 70.3 for the first time in Pula. The town is the ideal place for this event, due to its beautiful and natural scenery, which makes it extremely popular for visitors looking for active holidays. Fortunately it is also the perfect place to have a relaxing time in the sun, something that we hope the competitors will be enjoying right now.”
Away from the racing track, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts and Arenaturist have worked together over the last years to launch five Park Plaza Hotels in the area, including most recently Park Plaza Arena Pula, a new 175 room hotel located on the Istrian coast.
