WINNING PHOTO LIVED UP TO GREAT EXPECTATIONS

It was a tale of only one city as Fight for Sight and Park Plaza Hotels and Resorts announced winning Dickensian-inspired view of London.

London, 8 July 2011 - After reviewing more than 1,100 favourite snapshots of the capital for the My View of London photo competition, the judges last night announced the top three winning images.

Scooping first prize was Nick Gommon’s black and white shot titled ‘A Dickens View’ which could be straight from the 19th century but was actually taken one foggy, cold morning from London Bridge in February this year. Nick received a luxury stay in a Penthouse Suite at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London that includes dinner at the acclaimed Brasserie Joel restaurant and spa treatments at Mandara Spa, a Sony A550 Digital SLR camera, 12 month subscription from Digital SLR Photography and a £250 John Lewis voucher.

Taking second place was Lindsey Chadwick’s ‘London Pride’ which packs a colourful London punch and John Kortland’s ‘Smash and Grab Wedding’ showing a newlywed couple, amongst London’s hustle and bustle, won third place.

The winning shots will be on display from Monday (11 July) at Park Plaza Victoria London in the lobby along with the other top nine images shortlisted from across the four categories: colour, love, a new perspective and room with a view. The pictures are free to view for the public.

“The overall standard of entries this year was excellent and our judges had a very difficult time selecting the winning shots but the dramatic and moody scene from Nick Gommon’s shot stood out instantly,” said Annu Mayor, Director of Fundraising for Fight for Sight.

“Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts is delighted to have been involved with Fight for Sight and the My View of London competition for the second year in a row. We worked with some great celebrities who helped us raise awareness of the competition and the wider Fight for Sight cause,” said Greg Hegarty, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts’ Regional General Manager.

The charity competition was backed by celebrities including David Haye, Boris Johnson, Dawn Porter, Phyllida Law and Tamara Beckwith who all revealed their favourite London view. Celebrity scenes and all the winning shots can also be viewed online at www.myviewoflondon.org.uk.
